iLASIK
Superior Vision Correction
Dr. Bryan is one of the most experienced surgeons in the Chapel Hill – Durham area, performing LASIK since its approval in 1995. He uses the world’s most sophisticated LASIK technology, iLASIK, which is the only technology approved for U.S. military pilots and NASA astronauts.
The revolutionary iLASIK surgery is achieved when the accuracy of CustomVue™ is combined to the most advanced FDA-approved technology and safety of bladeless surgery. All laser LASIK is also referred to as IntraLase. Only when it is combined with the Wavefront diagnostic, can it be termed as “iLASIK.”
At Carolina Ophthalmology Associates, your LASIK experience is customized from start to finish.
The complete iLASIK technology package includes:
- VISX Wavescan Wavefront ™ Diagnostics
- IntraLase ™ Femtosecond Laser
- VISX Star S4 Iris Registration™ Excimer Laser
- VISX Advanced CustomVue™ Treatment
About The Procedure
On the day of your procedure, a mild sedative is given to help you relax. Once you are taken to the O.R., you will relax in a reclining chair and anesthetic drops are placed into your eye. A flap is then created using a highly precise laser. During this time, your vision can become dim and some patients say it will go completely dark for a few seconds. Then the flap is folded back and the cool beam from the laser then removes microscopic amounts of tissue -less than the thickness of a human hair in most cases- to create a new curvature. You won’t have to worry about blinking because a lid speculum is used to keep your eye open. The procedure typically takes 30 minutes from start to finish for both eyes and is described as “painless” by most patients.
Following The Procedure
Following treatment, you are likely to experience a slightly stinging or gritty sensation along with blurry vision. These symptoms are temporary and usually disappear in a few hours. Functional vision for most activities such as driving is usually achieved by the next day.
Safety…Our Top Concern
Our VISX® Star S4 laser has made a number of breakthroughs that have improved the safety as well as the patient results. VISX® invented the technology for laser vision correction 20 years ago and continues to be the most trusted name among eye surgeons. Using the WaveScan WaveFront System along with our laser, Dr. Bryan is able to deliver unprecedented levels of accuracy and precision essential to the CustomVue procedure.
Moving or blinking during your LASIK procedure is a common concern. Our laser has a 3D ActiveTrak™ so even if you move your eyes, the laser will automatically stop. It can follow any tiny motion of your eye instantaneously and automatically, repositioning the laser to ensure accuracy.
Variable Spot Scanning (VSS™) is another exclusive VISX® laser technology safety mechanism that allows for a larger treatment area. This has minimized earlier night vision issues where pupil size is a consideration.
You can relax knowing that your eye is precisely centered and that any movement during the procedure will not jeopardize either the accuracy of your treatment or your safety.
