Nicole A. Penke, MD

Nicole A. Penke, MD is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in cataract surgery & comprehensive ophthalmology. She has more than 10 years of experience in treating the medical health of the eye, including routine and complicated diagnoses.

Dr. Penke graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 2007. She completed her Internal Medicine year at Metrohealth Hospital in Cleveland, OH. She completed her Ophthalmology residency through the University at Buffalo. She was appointed Chief Resident for her final year of training. After graduation, she joined a practice in northern Virginia and then relocated to Arizona the following year for five years. Dr. Penke moved to North Carolina in 2017 to be closer to family and has been a part of the COA family ever since.

Dr. Penke’s goal is to make sure patients understand their eyes, their diagnoses and treatment. She strongly believes in patient education. For cataract surgery, she is experienced with standard phacoemulsification cataract procedures as well as laser assisted cataract surgery and advanced technology lenses such as multifocal and toric implants.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, NC Society of Eye Physicians and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. Penke is originally from Buffalo, NY but is now surrounding by family in North Carolina. She has three children and enjoys traveling, running, golfing and spending time with her family.
