Steven J. Shaw, MD

Steven J. Shaw, MD is a fellowship trained, board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery, laser vision correction (LASIK), and corneal disease and transplantation. His practice also includes diagnosis and treatment for common eye diseases including dry eyes, glaucoma, and diabetes related eye disease. He accepts all major insurances including Medicare and Medicaid.

He attained his undergraduate degree from Duke University and graduated from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2007. He then completed a medicine internship at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University.

Dr. Shaw also completed a cornea fellowship with the Eye Consultants of Atlanta specializing in complex cataract surgery, corneal transplants including DSEK/DMEK/DALK, and refractive surgery. He was previously on faculty at the Wake Forest University Eye Center before entering private practice. He has co-authored numerous publications and spoken at state and regional meetings in the past. Dr. Shaw has hospital privileges at Duke Regional Hospital and Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center.

He is an active member in the following organizations:

  • North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons
  • Cornea Society
  • International Society of Refractive Surgeons

Dr. Shaw grew up in Greenville, NC where his father is also a practicing physician. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and their dog. His hobbies include travel, hiking, soccer, and fishing. He also enjoys playing the violin and has previously been a member of the Durham Symphony and Triad Longleaf Opera.
